The Problem

After studying the plight of the Monarch Butterflies and the Honeybee, my students wanted to write letters to the government to ask for laws to be changed to protect these insects. We also wanted to educate our fellow students about how humans impact our environment.

Our Plan

We researched and wrote about various aspects about the Monarchs and the Monarch migration for a couple of weeks. We then read an article about the chemicals in pesticides and herbicides that are contributing to the decline in the Monarch Butterfly population. The students brainstormed key ideas and vocabulary before they wrote their letters.
