The Problem
We completed this project on Nov. 24, 2014. A local author, Beth Lancione, came to talk to our group about owls. She read a book that she really had published, Solomon Screech Owl. She also spoke to us about the publishing process for a brief time. Then, we viewed various owl photos and dissected owl pellets with peer partners.
Our Plan
My hope is to inspire students to write about something they love and talking with a published writer was encouraging for them. They loved dissecting owl pellets as well. This author was also a rehabilitator for wildlife and shared that experience with them. The students wrote about this experience in their Roots & Shoots journals.
