The Problem
The Next Generation 2017 Hi my name is Isabella Rivera from Kids for Animals: I am eight years old and live in Puerto Rico. Kids for Animals, is a project that educates children about the problem of abandoned and abused animals. Because I am tired of seen stray animals dead on the streets and I told my parents, we have to do something about this. My dream is to see happy people and animals in the world. Over the last two years we have contacted several organizations, who love and care for animals and asked them this time to turn their efforts towards we the children. Because children can change the world and if children know how to treat and protect animals, they in turn will teach other children and adults. Then we contacted schools who believe in their children and have faith in what we can accomplish. And Kids for Animals was born. When? Friday, March 24, 2017 at your school! How does it work? This year we have two amazing options Option Number One: An Educator will visit your school. 1.) Schools contact us at Kidsforanimalsmarch@gmail.com informing us the name of the school, the town and the amount of children who will be participating. Tell us if you need the presentation in English, otherwise it will be sent in Spanish. 2.) We in turn arrange for an educator to visit your school. If you want the speakers to address the audience in English, let us know, otherwise they will give it in Spanish. 3.) On March 24, 2017 they will give you the Kids for Animals presentation; consisting of a power point presentation suitable for children from 3-13 years old, an educational video and last the children make the Kids for Animals pledge to stop animal abuse. The entire activity will take under one hour. The educator will need for you to provide audiovisuals to project the power point presentation and video as well as audio. As a precaution all schools participating in Kids for Animals receive by email ahead all the educational material, but your educator will be ready as well. 4.) Before the day of the presentation the children must make their animal ears and hold a pet food drive. 5.) During the Kids for Animal presentation the children must wear their animal ears. The animal ears template will be sent to you ahead. Children are encouraged to make the ears as part of an arts and crafts project and to have fun and be creative. 6.) The children must also take charge and promote a pet food drive in their school. All the pet food that is collected will be taken by the educator that visits your school, that is the only reward they receive, pet food for the animals they are helping out. 7.) If the school allows it the educator will take pets to the school as part of their presentation. This must be specifically requested. In case of damages resulting from the animal visiting the school the organizations (both Kids for Animals or the educator and the organization they represent) are released from all claims legal, civil, criminal or medical claims. It is at the schools own risk. 8.) You will receive a picture release form. However if you provide the pictures directly to our facebook or Instagram pages there’s no need for the release. Some schools have participated and have sent us pictures to our email in private to prove that the activity took place. These pictures have never been shared and would never be without proper consent. 9.) It is important that we receive a final number of students who participated with a final number of pet food pounds so that we can report the results back to the Jane Goodall Institute, Roots and Shoots Program. Option Number Two: Turn Kids for Animals into a community service program for your older students. 1.) Schools contact us at Kidsforanimalsmarch@gmail.com informing us the name of the school, the town and the amount of children who will be participating. 2.) If you ask for option number two. We in turn will send you the Kids for Animals presentation by email, so that one or a small group of your own students, who must be over the age of 14 to participate, prepare to give the presentation in your school to the younger children. They must prepare ahead to give the presentation, by practicing and familiarizing with the material, this allows them to strengthen communication, public speaking, leadership and organizational skills. 3.) You must send us the full name and date of birth of the children you choose as leaders to give the Kids for Animals presentation on March 24, 2017. On that day they will give the Kids for Animals presentation; consisting of a power point presentation suitable for children from 3-13 years old, an educational video and last the children make the Kids for Animals pledge to stop animal abuse. The entire activity will take under one hour. 4.) The students will need for you to provide audiovisuals to project the power point presentation and video as well as audio. As a precaution all schools participating in Kids for Animals receive by email ahead all the educational material. 5.) Before the day of the presentation the children must make their animal ears and hold a pet food drive. The student leaders you chosen could help the smaller children prepare the animal ears during arts and crafts groups. Thus, you could get more older children involved by holding arts and crafts workshops to help the younger ones make ahead the animal ears, thus providing even more students the opportunity to secure community service hours. 6.) During the Kids for Animal presentation the children must wear their animal ears. The animal ears template will be sent to you ahead. Children are encouraged to make the ears as part of an arts and crafts project and to have fun and be creative. 7.) The leaders must also take charge and promote a pet food drive in their school. Leaders organizing the Kids for Animals event, must chose ahead of time an animal shelter or an independent rescuer of their liking to give to them the results of said pet food drive. The name of the organization selected and the date of delivery must be notified to Kids for Animals, with a total amount of pet food pounds collected. We highly recommend that you invite a representative of said organization to visit your school on March 24, 2017 to pick up the pet food, making the process easier for both parties. If you need the name of a shelter or a rescue group, do not hesitate to contact us and we will gladly put you in contact with a group within your community. 8.) You will receive a picture release form. However if you provide the pictures directly to our facebook or Instagram pages there’s no need for the release. Some schools have participated and have sent us pictures to our email to prove that the activity took place. These pictures have never been shared and would never be without proper consent. 9.) It is important that we receive a final number of students who participated with a final number of pet food pounds so that we can report the results back to the Jane Goodall Institute, Roots and Shoots Program. Kids for Animals works! Between 2015 and 2016; 62 schools and summer camps have participated and over 18 animal rescue organizations have joined in this effort. Thus in the last years 8,000 children received the education of Kids for Animals and over 9,000 pounds of pet food have been collected and shared with different animal rescue organizations. Kids for Animals was so successful that it was awarded the Project of the Month of April 2015 by the International Organization Roots and Shoots from the Jane Goodall Institute. Kids for Animals was not only for the children, adults participated wearing their animal ears. Business opened their doors with employees wearing their animal ears and spreading the word. Other countries also joined. A school In Orlando, Fl has participated for the last two years. Venezuela joined Kids for Animals. We also received messages and pictures from New York, Indiana and even different countries like Argentina, Venezuela, Spain, Mexico, Chile and Ecuador. The stray animal problem is a Global problem and I believe that education is the solution. So please join me and many others in this effort to help stop animal abuse.
