The Problem

Large overgrown garden at our school, not utilized by school or community. Plan is to gut, and clean out overgrown plants, etc. in order to establish a sustainable garden to grow food, use as an outdoor classroom for K-5 science standards, and create a sensory garden area for out students who are on the spectrum.

Our Plan

Excavate existing plants, trees, etc. Rewire and connect existing irrigation system that is in place but not in use. Install California Native Plant Garden in a portion of the garden area; to establish this garden area for attracting pollinators: birds, bees, and butterflies. Install pathways in the large rectangular plant bed, ensuring easier access for all the students. Build and install raised beds for planting and harvesting in the vegetable, fruit and herb garden area. Create a sensory garden for our students, who are on the spectrum, to enjoy being with nature, and learning about our garden with a focus on their learning needs.
