The Problem
For this project, it is our organizations goal to successful manage pinyon-juniper populations on a controlled site within the Sierra Verde Ranch unit.

Northern Arizona University only has a thin-burn study on pinyon-junipers and we would like to perform a more extensive study on thinning practice. Our project will include thinning practices (not burning) based off of forest service guidelines and regulations. The steps will include strategic removal of select sub-populations, the adequate regeneration of new sub-populations, recording of canopy, recording of percentage and type of ground covers, and recording forest ecological responses as well as wildlife responses. Also, the project will include an analysis of naturally disturbed pinyon-junipers.
