The Problem

Invasive species is an incredibly important problem. These species have drastic effects. Invasive species are capable of causing the extinction of native plants and animals, reducing biodiversity, competing with native organisms for limited resources, and altering habitats. This disrupts ecosystems causing ecological and economic problems. Addressing the invasive species problem is very difficult because often, the complete removal or extinction of a species can disrupt the ecosystem further.

Our Plan

We used the format of the 4-step formula for this meeting. Get engaged: We created a presentation describing the impact of invasive species and we watched a video. Observe: We went outside to the playground and played a game similar to Capture the Flag, with one team being the "native species" and the other team with more players and high school participants being the "invasive species." Take Action: In order to combat the issue of invasive bug species, we painted and decorated birdhouses. The goal of this was to increase the population of the invasive species' natural predators. Celebrate: We had snacks from various local businesses and watched Jane.
