The Problem

Food insecurity and environmental impacts of industrial agriculture.

Our Plan

Kent Denver School houses a Tiny Farm, whose gardens are used to give summer campers hands on experience in gardening and agriculture. The produce from the garden is donated to food banks and communities in need. My project would transform these gardens into a hydroponic Tiny Farm to allow for production of produce year round in a system that eliminates nutrient runoff, minimizes water waste, and eliminates soil depletion. The hydroponic Tiny Farm will serve as an example for students at Kent Denver and other communities to learn about sustainable agriculture and the impacts that our current agricultural system has on the environment. Produce from the hydroponic Tiny Farm will be donated to marginalized and disadvantaged communities through a partnership with Fresh Food Connect, which is and Denver based organization whose mission is to grow a more local and resilient food system by connecting gardeners with their communities.
