The Problem
Well beyond their great beauty, mystery and mysticism, wolves play a critical role in ecosystem balance and diversity and make earth a healthier planet. Unfortunately, conflicts of interest, the vastly superior weaponry of people and the often heavy-handed tactics of special interests continue to threaten this special groups of animals. My goal is to increase funding for the organizations that are fighting for wolf conservation/co-existence and to amplify the calls of the many people who want co-existence with wolves, not eradication, to be our nation's goal in wolf management programs. There are challenges to "living with wolves" but we need to creatively and reasonably overcome them so we stop the vicious human cycle of using deadly force to solve every problem and instead develop ways to co-exist with wolves and support the important ecosystems they create and maintain. When we work together to "live together", people, the wolves and the planet win so let's do this!
Our Plan
In 2024, Wolf Defender created and released a mobile app, "Howl : For the Wolves", to raise money for existing wolf conservation organizations and to create a "map of Wolf Defenders" to show the many people all over North America who want solutions that enable "living with wolves." With each purchase of the Howl app via the Apple or Android Play Store, 80% of the proceeds is donated to the organization designated by the purchaser or if no preference is selected, to our Founding Partner, Living with Wolves. The purchaser is asked to complete a short form to add themselves to the Wolf Defender map and with each Wolf Defender added, the call for co-existence grows louder and our chances of success increase. Howl can be used to raise money for any wolf conservation group in the US. Our goal is to encourage people to create a Wolf Defender group in their community to support their local wolf advocacy group and to use Howl to help raise money and spread the word. If your local organization already has a relationship with Wolf Defender, then you can create events or develop other ideas to help raise awareness and promote sales for Howl to help fund that organization in your community and add more people to the Wolf Defender map. You can register an organization as a Wolf Defender partner and access Howl program resources for help promoting your local organization by contacting me at: howl@wolfdefender.org and we can talk about ideas and ways we can work together to spread the word and work together for "for the wolves."
