The Problem
For this service learning we are learning about the history and purpose of animal shelters and about the the relationship between people and animals and the history of domestic animals and pets. Students are also working with the Maryland SPCA. They are making homemade pet toys for shelter animals and are collecting wish list items for the shelter. We\'re also keeping a record of the volunteer work individual students are doing at animal shelters / on behalf of homeless pets. We\'ve also been looking at what it means to be a compassionate leader, and reflecting on the value of being an individual who has compassion for animals - and not taking it for granted that non-human animals exist to serve the interests and needs of people.
