High Altitude Hydroponics in the Classroom

  • Location
    Chipita Park, Colorado
  • Status
    Active

The Problem

All children should know how to grow their own food, even at 7700+ feet above seal level! We would like to add to our current hydroponic system and make it sustainable year after year for our students and families at Ute Pass Elementary.

Our Plan

Our project will provide students with the opportunity to learn how to grow their own food using modern technologies that require less water than soil gardening and no pesticides. Students will learn how to determine a plants nutritional needs based off their appearance. In addition, the children will gain knowledge of specialized techniques required to grow at a higher altitude all while instilling the love for fresh organic fruits and vegetables they have grown themselves.
