The Problem
The Helping Rebuild Wall Springs Park Butterfly Garden project aims to restore the community butterfly garden, damaged by hurricanes in 2024 due to flooding and saltwater intrusion. This garden is vital for local butterflies and serves as an educational resource on pollinators' importance to the environment.
Our Plan
Project activities include cleaning up and preparing the garden, sourcing and planting pollinator-friendly plants, and creating educational signs and handouts about butterflies. The project timeline is three months, beginning in January 2025 with planning, volunteer recruitment, and cleanup efforts. February will focus on planting and enhancing the garden with paths and features like butterfly-friendly rocks and water spots. March's tasks include a community day for installing educational signs and garden beautification, hosting a garden celebration, and collaborating with volunteers for ongoing garden maintenance and sustainability. The project will occur at Wall Springs Park's community butterfly garden in Palm Harbor, FL. Teen volunteers, Roots & Shoots, park staff, community members, local plant experts, and butterfly enthusiasts will lead and support the project. Funding from grants and donations will be used for plants, supplies, and signage.
