Healing Classrooms- “Pinwheels for Peace” ’16

The Problem

By participating in Students Rebuild "Healing Classrooms" project, we hope to expand our knowledge of the plight of Syrians victimized by war, and make connections to people involved. Each Pinwheel results in a minimum of $2.00 going to provide education for Syrian refuge children. Some of our Roots&Shoots members actually learned to write words such as Peace, Love, Hope, etc. in Arabic (the language of Syria).

Our Plan

The first step was for us to study what is happening to Syrians and gain some understanding of what life is like for the children. We then learned about how to make pinwheels out of paper, glue, pins, and paper straws or pencils. Once we became proficient at making them, we planned how we could share the project to the community's Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration on January 18.
