The Problem
We are the future. We’re the future doctors, lawyers, cops, engineers. We are the people who make the world better than it was the day before and the day before that. This is why we want to find a way to start a garden in front of our school, Hauser Jr High. We want to be the future. Our garden would symbolize what it means to be a student. It’s hard work, effort, and time-consuming, but it’s worth it. A patch of dirt inspires none. “Numerous studies point to school gardens as a means of improving academic achievement, promoting healthy lifestyles, demonstrating the principles of stewardship, encouraging community and social development, and instilling a sense of place,” says Kristin Stayer, community developer and youth development advocate. A garden not only boosts academic achievement, but it also creates a better environment. Our idea was to create an array of flowers that represent our school mascot. This would create more school pride which creates a happier environment. This garden will create a chain-reaction and encourage our future doctors, lawyers, cops and engineers to be their best. It will create a better community one flower at a time.
