The Problem

The problem we want to address is the lack of access to fresh, healthy foods in our community. Many families have limited opportunities to purchase affordable fruits and vegetables, which can contribute to unhealthy eating habits and food insecurity. Students also noticed that many people do not have the space, resources, or knowledge needed to grow their own food. In addition, there are limited opportunities for students to participate in hands-on projects that teach sustainability, nutrition, and environmental responsibility. Our community garden project will help provide healthier food options while educating students and families about gardening, healthy living, and working together to support the community.

Our Plan

The action we are planning is to design, build, and maintain a student-led community garden that will provide fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs to families and community members in need. Students will prepare the garden beds, plant seeds, care for the crops, and help harvest and distribute the produce. We will also educate students and families about healthy eating, sustainability, and the importance of community service through hands-on learning activities and workshops.
