The Problem

Clean up beach pollution, stop ocean pollution, and promote "Leave No Trace" acts of kindness while enjoying the sand and ocean waves. Beach cleanups can reduce litter, protect our ocean and raise awareness about harmful environmental litter and plastic pollution.

Our Plan

The goal is to encourage long-term self-led or community-led beach cleanups across the world. When you are out enjoying the beach, simple acts such as putting your trash in the proper disposals and using designated boardwalks instead of walking across fenced dune systems can help keep our beaches healthy. When you take a “Leave No Trace” approach, and pick up not just your trash, but other trash laying around the beach - Acts of kindness are contagious. Your actions will help you enjoy the beach while reducing the impact that you leave, and encourage others to clean up our beaches as well.

Here is how the project went:

Collected 5 bags of trash along the SoCal coast. Great community building, fun time!

Through this project I/we learned:

Safety first! Wear biodegradable gloves, and try to use tongs to pick up garbage. There were plenty of cigarette butts, cans and bottles, and paper trash.

What I/we might change:

Instead of bags, use buckets. The paper bags catch the wind too much, and the bottoms can get wet from the garbage.

My/our favorite part of this project was:

Seeing how many bags and buckets we were able to fill in a short amount of time.
