My name is Bruce Rosenblum, I was involved in the "Roots and shoots" program years ago through Glide Memorial Church when Tyler Shaw was in charge. I saw your program work extremely well, especially teaching kids how to become empathetic, which was extremely empowering to them. I'm currently working with Foster children and want to develop a program to teach young children about volunteering, and to become leaders in making the world a better place.
The initial project will be to work with a group that supports Foster parents called Embrace Oregon, who works closely with DHS (government agency who finds parents to foster children) . I'd like to set up a "Roots and Shoots"program here in Portland Oregon to get foster kids involved in learning about volunteering during their early developmental age and up. Can anyone can help give me some guidance to help set up the initial structure for the program? The first year I'd like to plan 2-4 projects, which will be determined and driven by the Foster Parents and their children.
