Our school community is affected by air and noise pollution from the nearby intersection of two major highways. In addition, the impacts of climate change, habitat loss, and declining green spaces reduce environmental quality and opportunities for wildlife. We want to increase tree cover to improve air quality, reduce noise, support biodiversity, strengthen community well-being, and promote long-term environmental sustainability.
We will plant 50 moringa trees, representing each new student, in the succession area surrounding our school's detention zone. Students, teachers, and community members will help establish and care for the trees as part of an annual enrollment tradition. The growing tree canopy will help absorb carbon dioxide, filter air pollutants, reduce noise, provide habitat for wildlife and a food source for the community, enhance the campus environment, and serve as a living example of environmental stewardship and sustainability for future generations.
