The Problem

My students and I would like to continue and expand upon our first grade garden. The goal is for the garden to be a place where students and their families can harvest healthy and free food.

Our Plan

My students and I would like to continue and expand upon our first grade garden. We have 2 small raised beds outside, and we would like to make both a little larger. We will start seeds indoors and transplant them into the garden in the spring. The goal is for the garden to be a place where students and their families can harvest healthy and free food. Students will keep a pictorial and a written journal describing their experiences during all parts of the project. Students will be taught the various duties and activities that are involved in maintaining a garden. They will learn academic skills that relates to our first grade standards of plant needs and weather. During harvest time, we will keep collect data to see how often parents and students are harvesting, and whether or not we have enough food to go around.
