The Problem
Having a natural space to learn environmental science, connect with nature, and fix an eyesore outside our wellness center. We will educate others on the importance of nature, pollinators and have a space to teach classes outdoors. We would also like to grow fruits and vegetables to have our 90 academy students be able to eat.
Our Plan
We are working on creating an outdoor classroom, garden area and weather station for our Environmental Science and Natural Resources Academy. This garden was started last school year and we hope that it will be motivational not only for our current students but that it will also encourage more students to join our academy. We have had the space for the past few years, however, with a pandemic (not teaching on campus), the restrictions of teaching last year and subbing many periods, and this year having to teach all periods our teacher team has had little or no time to work on this. If we receive this funding we can have 90 students involved with the planning and creating of this space and their impact can attract others that love and appreciate nature. Part of the garden is situated near our Wellness Center that is a place for students to go to when they need social-emotional help. We would like for this space to be relaxing and give students a place to reconnect to nature, learn about the importance of native plants and indigenous ways.
