Endangered Horny Toad Habitat project

  • Location
    Huntington Beach, California
  • Status
    Active
  • Age Level
    5 to 7 Years

The Problem

With agriculture and development, grass lawns and the introduction of Argentine ants the horny toads are going extinct. They eat the local harvester ants which eat the seeds of the native plants. They also need large shrubs with dry empty spaces between. They can\'t hide in grassy watered lawns. I hope that by planting native coastal sage scrub plants that only get watered by rain they will come back.

Our Plan

We are planting a Native Coastal sage scrub habitat for the local species of Horned Lizard the coastal horned lizard.
