The Problem
Youth learn not only that you are never too young to be involved in community leadership (even children as young as 5 can help us) but also that there are many steps to any community gathering, and you can be involved in whichever ways you are comfortable. For example, if you are shy around new people, you don't need to be the volunteer that greets those who come in...you can design the flyer for the event.
Our Plan
We hold free youth-run events to collect toys for pediatric patients. Past events include an egg hunt, an author festival, and a carnival. Events are free but attendees will bring a new toy for pediatric patients. Later, our volunteers will deliver these toys to pediatric units. In this way, youth directly see the impact of their actions, rather than simply donating, while at the same time understanding the importance and specifics of youth leadership.
