The Problem

The Connect for Success team has identified a key area in which each of the youth in our program have struggled with. Connect for Success is an Educational Support program for youth in foster care that have struggled with food insecurity throughout their life. We hope they will gain a better understanding and learn more about how food is grown, food insecurity on a global scale, and the role pollinators play in growing plants and in our ecosystem.

Our Plan

The students decided they would like to have a better understanding of how to grow food that is healthy for them from seed to harvest. At harvest time, the students will be able to share the vegetables and herbs with their family and friends. The youth will plant their seeds and watch them germinate and care for the seedlings by giving them whatever and knowing when to transplant them into the next sized pot. These plants will be ready to be transferred by late spring outside into the garden beds. In the garden the youth will be able to learn more about pollinators that visit that plants and the key role they plan in the ecosystem.
