The Problem

Hunger in our community.

Our Plan

Creating a community fridge where we partner with community leaders and change makers to donate perishable and non perishable goods. Allowing those in need an opportunity to receive meals and food when they need them.

Here is how the project went:

We have not gotten our project underway as of yet. Due to the pandemic there are extra precautions that need to be taken considering this is an item sharing project. We were being consulted by the Mayor of Compton\'s team at the time of inception. Since we started there has now been a newly elected Mayor and it has been more difficult to make contact with her focus being on the changing of the guard. So we have not been able to retrieve the necessary permits or authorization to begin. We have not used the grant as yet.

Through this project I/we learned:

Even though you have the best of intentions there is a process for everything and especially during this time safety is more of a concern then anything else.

What I/we might change:

The area that we service. There is a high need in Compton but it is very difficult to legitimately establish a community fridge in this area.

My/our favorite part of this project was:

The conception. Speaking to people in the community. Creating a partnership with one of the local child learning centers who offered to let us use their site for the community fridge.

Some tips, tricks or fun facts about the project:

Ensure that you research the rules and regulations in the city that you are attempting to serve prior to starting your community fridge.
