The Problem
After visiting ABQ, NM last summer I was looking for plants that survive the heat and drought of NM climates to incorporate into our parking islands. One plant that was a dominant fixture in landscapes was lavender! Roots & Shoots wrote to a couple of companies researching the type of lavender that would be perfect for Grand Island.
Our Plan
Our Barr Roots and Shoots team is going to team up with the GI City botanist, Brad Foster, and we are going to make lavender a plant for all of Grand Island parks and our parking islands. On February 22, 2017, I am going to take 11 Barr Roots & Shoots volunteers to plant 250 lavender plants. Brad is going to teach them how to mix soil, use the seed spreader, and incubator. After the plants are ready for planting we will take the entire R&S team and plant lavender all around town. Color GI Purple!
