This was a fun, educational story-time! We read a book about the Christmas Bird Count. We then explored the eBird app and website. One of our young participants came in to the library to check out our Birding Backpack and some books to apply what she learned in the field! I feel this was a great success!
We learned about: Citizen Science Birding Basics Resources available locally and online How to use the app/website eBird and Merlin
I wouldn't change any of the aspects of what was introduced or discussed, but I do hope we can have the event in person again one day and practice using the app together and outside!
Hearing that one of the participants came in to the library with her mom the following week to check out birding books and our 'Birding Backpack' resource!
eBird is a FREE and easy to use app that contributes to real-life science and research! It has a sister app called Merlin which helps you identify birds. Combining the two makes it easy to get started! It's great for children and adults alike and offers a lot of support and guidance in getting started!
