The Problem

Virginia Schrantz, known to all as Miss Virginia, was a retired nurse who earned international acclaim for her dedication to helping others. She opened her heart and her home on S Hanna St. to those in need. Her legacy lives on with the Miss Virginia Food Pantry at the same address that provides food at no cost to members of our community. Over the years, Virginia Schrantz' tireless efforts and her firm belief in aiding and caring unconditionally for all those in need have inspired other organizations, schools and individuals across the community to get involved and lend their support to her program. This one amazing woman's vision of ending hunger in our community has since burgeoned into a community wide effort that lends not only physical aid but also a voice to neighbors struggling through hard times. Her legacy of giving and caring is her gift to us all. Because when we choose to give and care it benefits our whole community, both helping those in need and offering us all an opportunity to be a part of making a difference in our world.

Our Plan

We participated and volunteered at the Miss Virginia Day Event at the Fort Wayne downtown public library, honoring Miss Virginia and her legacy. Miss Virginia's mission reminds us that it does not matter who we are or how much we have to give (a small donation, a couple cans of food, an hour of our time, a kind word or a warm smile) every little bit counts. Every kind act blossoms into another, and this is precisely how we, the small and seemingly insignificant, can go about making a positive impact on the world around us, every day.…one humble kindness after another. So let's get out there and spread a little clarity, courage and compassion of our own, anywhere we can, trusting that every good deed, every little bit of hope or love we share will grow on and on, if we only plant the first seeds.
