The Problem
We see kids who are bored while parents are at the laundromat, hospital waiting rooms, beauty shops and barber shops. Those kids need something to do.

We collected gently used books and made labels for the inside that invite kids and their parents to read the book, take it home, and pass it along to others to read. We deliver these books to 5-8 places in town, and individual members take reponsibility to keep refilling books as they are removed
This was not our most successful project. We collected books that we thought young kids would like. Members sorted them into stacks to deliver to areas where kids wait while their parents are taking care of something. We brainstormed and thought laundromats, beauty shops, barber shops, and hospitals would be good places to leave books. We made labels that invited people to read and take the books home. We glued them into the books at a meeting and members agreed to take the books to various places.
We needed someone to be in charge of this project. We were all excited at the beginning, but after we did the first round of deliveries, not everyone kept up with restocking the books. To be fair, we had some problems outside of our control - we were operating under a "Stay Home, Stay Safe," order from our governor and all of the businesses where we delivered books were shut down.
Have someone in charge of reminding people to restock the books. Have stickers made to place on the outside of the books. Have an article in the paper so businesses who want books could ask for them. Have kids take pictures of the displays they left.
One student, Isabel Shockey, did an amazing job at this. She made sure that the waiting areas of the local hospital that would be mostly likely to have kids had good books.
