The Problem

This project was our part of The Students Rebuild Literacy Challenge. We desired to connect to the world community and promote the importance of literacy in the lives of people everywhere. By making bookmarks ourselves and encouraging others to do the same, we earned money for literacy programs in Africa, Asia and South America. In the process we had the chance to reflect on the importance of literacy in our own lives. Our goal was to be part of making a difference in the lives of children.

Our Plan

This project was our part of The Students Rebuild Literacy Challenge, in partnership with Save the Children and Global Nomads Group. It will help thousands of children in disadvantaged communities become successful life-long readers and learners. The Bezos Family Foundation, through Students Rebuild, will match each bookmark made and mailed in with $1—up to $300,000—for Save the Children’s Literacy Boost program in Mali, Nepal and Peru. We made bookmarks ourselves, and brought the project to others in a city wide community event (Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration). Many people participated, kids and adults.
