The Problem

Seven Arrows’ new campus, located at the Aldersgate historical building on the corner of Sunset Blvd and Temescal Canyon. The very location is unique in that it is literally, where the mountains –The Santa Monica Mountains– meet the sea, –The Pacific Ocean. Temescal canyon is flanked by cliffs on both sides, where hawks soar. On the top of the canyon road is the entrance to Temescal Gateway Park, a State Park that offers visitors an immediate gateway to the mountain habitat of Southern California. The Aldersgate Campus sits on the very edge of the urban community of Pacific Palisades and these natural habitats. For the students of Seven Arrows, as proposed by the Nature Society, a student-led club working to improve environmental stewardship in the school and community, creating the right conditions for the campus to become a wildlife sanctuary where birds from all of the surrounding habitats can find food and shelter is a priority.

Our Plan

By organizing their community and brainstorming ideas for enhancing the campus and its surroundings, the Nature Society seeks to create a Bird Sanctuary in the Aldersgate Campus. The Nature Society is documenting the species of birds that already frequent the area, and from that information, devising what projects must be installed at the campus to attract more of these birds, i.e. hummingbird feeders to attract the various species of birds that live in the area.
