The Problem

Student education of English and Spanish speaking community on preventing storm drain runoff pollution and reducing Plastic Pollution entering the ocean. Students will do research with university scientists on micro plastics collected from ocean and sand.

Our Plan

Research on microplastics in ocean and fresh waters, beach sand. Research impact of ocean plastics on marine organisms. Impact of breakdown of plastics into polymers that are human endocrine disruptors, especially youth and pregnant women. Development of a bi-lingual education and action campaign for the broader population. Brochures, Public Service announcements, tabling at Earth Days, parent meetings, health fairs. Students will collaborate with other teams nationally and internationally. Also with Algalita, 5 Gyres, Last Plastic Straw.
