The Problem
Many students are interested in healthcare but do not have the same opportunities to explore it. Programs can be expensive, and some students do not have mentors, connections, or people who can guide them toward internships, research, or other healthcare experiences. Through a survey we conducted with students, we found that cost and lack of mentorship were two major barriers. We want to make healthcare opportunities more accessible, especially for underserved students who may have the interest and potential but not the same resources or support.
Our Plan
We plan to continue expanding Bay Area Medical Explorers so more underserved students can access free healthcare education, mentorship, research, service, and career exploration opportunities. We want to bring our programs into more communities across the Bay Areaby working with schools, libraries, community organizations, healthcare professionals, and student volunteers. We also plan to continue growing our workshops, mentorship programs, research opportunities, community service projects, and healthcare outreach. Our goal is to reach students who may not normally have access to these experiences and give them the resources, guidance, and support to explore their interests in healthcare.
