The Problem

Students are focusing on raising awareness about the importance of properly recycling batteries. Roots and Shoots at Global Idea School joined the Batteries for Berries initiative, a program where you donate used batteries and, in exchange, receive berries. Through this project, students are helping protect the environment while encouraging the community to recycle responsibly.

Our Plan

During the month of April, the school community brought all their used batteries to the school. Roots and Shoots was able to collect 23.8 pounds of used batteries while educating parents and students about the importance of properly recycling batteries. In Washington, there are many places where people can recycle these items, but many community members are not aware of them. Through this project, students helped raise awareness about protecting the environment and keeping harmful waste out of landfills.
