The Problem
The problem to be fixed is the environmental impact caused by releasing balloons into the sky to honor deceased loved ones. While this act is rooted in love and remembrance, the balloons eventually deflate and descend back to Earth, where they contribute to pollution in oceans, parks, and other natural areas. This pollution poses grave dangers to wildlife, as animals may ingest the deflated balloons, mistaking them for food, which can lead to injury or death.
Our Plan
We are planning to initiate a comprehensive letter writing campaign directed at our local assembly members to advocate for a law that prohibits the release of balloons. Additionally, we will launch an online petition aimed at gathering at least 10,000 signatures to demonstrate widespread support for this initiative. To further raise awareness, we will create public service announcements (PSAs) and utilize various social media platforms to engage the community and disseminate information about the environmental impact of balloon releases.
