Bakersfield High School Garden Project

The Problem

We hope to design, build, and maintain a local high school garden within our campus. Garden plants would include drought resistant plants, non-invasive species, and honey-bee friendly flowers. A compost bin would help reduce the amount of waste on our campus and in our garden, while hydroponic structures and a drip irrigation system will allow us to maximize the amount of space we are granted while also conserving water.

Our Plan

Using our Ecology Club's funds and grants from several foundations, we will draft a design plan and budget. Once approved by local administrators, we will employ the help of over 50 BHS Ecology Club members to bring the garden project into reality. Yearly funds raised by the Eco Club would be used to maintain the garden and the compost bin.
