Here is how the project went:

Demonstrated at middle school. I used test tubes with lake water- equal amounts and mixed then with household products that have high high phospohrous content : used 2 brands of fertlizers and 2 beand of conventional toothpaste. In another set up of 5 tubes, I used herbal/eco-friendly toothpaste brand. They were left in classroom near window for 14 days. Fertilizer had highest algal growth and herbal brand least. Discussed eutrophication and algal bloom with 7th graders.
