Address Water Runoff in Morisini Reserve by Building and Planting a Riparian Buffer

  • Location

The Problem

We want to reduce runoff pollution and slow erosion in the Morosini Nature Reserve by creating a riparian buffer at the largest reservoir/pond. The Morosini Reserve is a part of the Westmoreland Conservancy and is close to several major highways and industrial sites that contribute to significant runoff pollution at the site.

Our Plan

We want to teach our scouts and community about how riparian buffers work and improve the future of this conservation area for the public who frequent the walking trails thorough the reserve. Our scouts and adult leaders will work in partnership with the conservancy to build up the buffer on the one end of the reservoir and then plant appropriate native vegetation to allow this area to develop over the next few years and improve conditions.
