The Problem

When we first created the garden we transformed an unused piece of land into 25 raised beds (used for growing produce that we donate to support seniors experiencing food insecurity) and a pollinator area. We want to continue to develop a native habitat that includes native plants, microclimates, shelter and a water source for local wildlife and migratory species. We have used some of the money we previously received from Roots & Shoots to start this process, but we have a ways to go.

Our Plan

We host a monthly visit from a local after-school mentoring program for teens during the school year. Our action is to continue to develop the native habitat as a project for these teens to participate in. They like to explore the garden - developing shelter areas and choosing what the space should look like for wildlife would be very empowering. In addition we will purchase a water feature that will help to support wildlife, and early natives flowers so that we can support pollinators in the early spring.
