The Problem

Butterflies are losing their habitats and the group wants to create a local habitat for both buttreflies and bees. They also want to be sure other wildlife has food access by building bird feeders, by using everyday items so that families in the school can do this at home as well. Our community is alway in need of updated information on recycling to keep the community clean and cut down on garbage. They want to hand out up-to-date info on local recycling as well as on open burning and other forms of pollution.

Our Plan

Our group has already completed a successful donation campaign for our local cat shelter, and the shelter was very grateful. Next, we are going to make some bird feeders from common household objsts, and show them at our school's Spring Open House, encouraging famlies to do the same at home. The students are researching ways to reduce pollution and to recycle. They are working hard to get correct information on local recycling using some of their recess time to make the flyers. They will hand out flyers to parents at Open House. The students are also researching the best plants for our area to attract bees and butterflies. They are going to be growing some plants and we plan to plant them in an appropriate spot on the school grounds. Lastly, in June, the students want to take a field trip into their town to pick up garbage.
