The Problem

Our wish for Family Day is that we have at least 50 people come out with their family members to learn more about what a difference two volunteer hours can do to help F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Horse & Sanctuary. It is also our hope to get families outside in the fresh air, interacting with horses and other farm animals because "the family that plays together, stays together". It is a great day for people to learn something new about farm animals and what country life is like.

Our Plan

Currently, we have 47 horses, 2 miniature donkeys, 1 hinny, 6 potbellied pigs, 2 farm pigs, 1 sheep, 6 goats and a cat. We welcome all ages to interact with animals and encourage families to to help together. Regular daily chores include; dump/scrub/fill water buckets and troughs, stall cleaning, bathing, grooming, braiding, feeding, mowing grass, paint, maintenance and anything else that might come up. Attire is casual, jeans or shorts and a t-shirt. Please wear closed toe shoes or boots. We need volunteers when it is hot, cold and raining. We look forward to seeing you at the ranch! Through this program we will introduce families to the love of animals. We can help families find something they are all interested in, where there are tasks for everyone and give them a peek into "farm and ranch life". Helping F.R.I.E.N.D.S. will not only teach families how to care for rescue horses and other farm animals, it will also teach families about the time it takes, the financial cost involved with horse ownership, and the responsibility and commitment it takes to own a animal that lives for 30+ years .
