The Problem

This project addresses the ongoing need for engaging, durable, and stimulating enrichment opportunities for rescued orangutans and chimpanzees living in sanctuary care. Great apes are highly intelligent animals that require regular cognitive and physical enrichment to support their mental wellbeing and encourage natural behaviors such as foraging, exploration, and problem-solving. Without varied enrichment, apes can experience boredom and reduced activity levels.

Our Plan

The Fishing Cart Mazes provide a long-lasting and interactive solution by creating puzzle-based feeding and exploration activities that keep the apes mentally engaged and physically active. In addition, the project addresses a community need by giving young people meaningful opportunities to participate in hands-on conservation and animal welfare efforts, helping foster empathy, teamwork, and environmental stewardship.
