The Problem

At the end of the school year, large amounts of usable school supplies—such as notebooks, pencils, folders, and art materials—are often thrown away by students and teachers. These items end up in landfills despite being in good condition and potentially useful to others. This waste contributes to environmental harm and overlooks the needs of students and teachers who lack access to basic supplies. This project aims to reduce this waste by collecting leftover school supplies and donating them to a creative reuse center like ScrapsKC, where they can be redistributed or repurposed for educational and creative use.

Our Plan

I will organize a school-wide supply drive during the final weeks of the school year to collect gently used or unused school supplies that would otherwise be discarded. Collection bins will be placed in classrooms and common areas. After sorting and organizing the donated items, I will deliver them to ScrapsKC, a local creative reuse center that redistributes materials for educational and community use. My goal is to reduce waste, support sustainability, and help others in need of school supplies.
