The Problem

Anacostia River runs right through Washington, D.C., yet it remains highly polluted due to chemical and physical pollution from the city. When plastic containers are easy to come by and water resources feel unlimited, it is easy to operate on the basis that one person's action can not impact the vast environment around us. Which is why we want to discuss with the younger generations how our actions can have impacts.

Our Plan

Information is an important key to understanding the problems we face and how we can fight them for the betterment of us all. Earth Conservation Corps will create discussions with primary school kids in two sessions so as to better their understanding of the Anacostia river watershed. The first session creates a space to discuss what a watershed is, why this is important, how pollution and inaction threaten the health of our watersheds, and what we can collectively do to fight water pollution. The second session will be a hands-on discussion and physical examples of healthy and unhealthy bodies of water and the ecosystems they support, to better exemplify the positives of a healthy watershed. Continuing into a wetland cleanup of physical debris.
