The Problem

Many elementary students have limited access to hands-on outdoor learning experiences and lack opportunities to learn where their food comes from. Without school gardening spaces, students often miss out on experiential learning that builds environmental awareness, healthy eating habits, teamwork skills, and a connection to nature. Afterschool programs in particular may not have the resources or funding needed to create safe, engaging garden spaces where students can actively participate.

Our Plan

Our project addresses this problem by providing a structured, accessible garden bed where K–5 students can grow vegetables, learn through direct experience, and develop responsibility, confidence, and environmental stewardship. The raised bed removes barriers such as limited space, poor soil, and lack of materials, making gardening possible for all students.
