The Problem

We all know driving cars and using plastic bottles adds to pollution — but few people realize that our screens do, too. 🌍 Every time we stream, scroll, or game, we’re using electricity from data centers that run 24/7. Those giant computers need power — and that power often comes from fossil fuels. 🌍 The problem we want to fix is digital disconnection — forgetting that our online lives still live on Earth. 🌍 Streaming your favorite show, downloading games, and endlessly scrolling might feel harmless, but all that invisible energy adds up. The goal isn’t to feel guilty — it’s to get curious and make smarter swaps.

Our Plan

For one month, participants will explore their digital footprint and try small ways to offset it. 1️⃣ Start with Awareness: Look at how much time you spend streaming, gaming, or on your phone each day. Talk about where electricity comes from in your home or city. 2️⃣ Reduce Where You Can: 🌿 Download your favorite playlists instead of streaming daily. 🌿 Watch in standard definition instead of HD when it doesn’t matter. 🌿 Turn off game consoles and Wi-Fi routers at night. 🌿 Take one “tech-free day” each week to rest your brain and the planet. 3️⃣ Offset Your Screen Time: Every hour online = one act of Earth care. 🌱 Plant a tree or native flower. 🚶 Take a mindful walk instead of another scroll break. 🗑 Pick up 5 pieces of litter for every hour you game. 💧 Turn off lights or save water to balance your energy use. 🌿 Optional add-ons: 🌿 Create a “Carbon Karma Jar” — every time you stream, drop in a note of one eco-kind act you’ll do to give back. 🌿 Design posters or infographics to teach others about digital energy use. 🌿 Why It Matters 🌿 Because the internet isn’t magic — it’s powered by real Earth energy. Because awareness is the first step toward balance. Because you can love tech and love the planet — it just takes a little mindfulness. When we pause before we scroll, unplug at night, and give back with intention, we remind ourselves that being connected to nature matters more than being connected to Wi-Fi.
