The Problem
The problem we want to fix is the lack of access to civic education and leadership development for underserved youth, especially those from immigrant and low-income communities. Many of these students attend schools without debate programs or enrichment opportunities that build critical thinking, confidence, and public speaking skills. Without these tools, young people are less likely to engage in civic life, advocate for their communities, or speak up on issues like environmental protection, animal welfare, or social justice. Our project aims to close that gap by using AI-powered debate tools and peer-led workshops to help students find their voice, understand multiple perspectives, and become active changemakers in their communities.
Our Plan
The action we are planning is a youth-led series of debate workshops that use artificial intelligence to help underserved students build public speaking and civic engagement skills. These workshops will focus on pressing community issues like environmental justice, animal welfare, and human rights, encouraging students to research, discuss, and debate real-world challenges. High school volunteers will lead sessions, train new peer mentors, and facilitate inclusive, bilingual events at local community centers and schools. With support from community partners, we’ll provide free access to our AI-powered platform, printed materials, and technology for students who need it. Through this project, young people will not only develop their own voices—they’ll also empower others to take action on the causes they care about.
