The Problem

Local children lament 'there's nothing to do here', especially in the summer months. We have had multiple incidents of vandalism in town recently. Our youth need a more engaging affordable variety of activities to choose from, especially in the realm of the creative arts as there are always plenty of offerings for athletic kids who are interested in sports to participate in.

Our Plan

Every year we offer a free library collaborative summer reading group with activities and programs. This year we are planning an arts & creativity focused summer reading program. Our 2025 goal is to have larger range of non-toxic and earth friendly art supplies for use especially during the summer months. We have reached out to the community to ask for donations of their unwanted/excess arts and crafts items.

Here is how the project went:

Super Successful Fun!

Through this project I/we learned:

It's important to be adaptable to keep the momentum going. I added a 6th and final theme week inspired by what was trending and popular with the children (labubu week). This was ultimately our most popular and best attended event.

What I/we might change:

I would hope to be able to do more outdoor activities next year during 2026.

My/our favorite part of this project was:

Everyone helping to spark creativity in one another. Lots of people made crafts and gifted them to each other which was heartwarming.

Some tips, tricks or fun facts about the project:

I focused on purchasing items for our project from female small business owners to make a positive contribution and impact beyond my own local community.
