Katelyn is a vibrant leader focused on conservation and increasing youth access to STEM education.
Katelyn founded “WOW! That’s STEM,” a student led organization that expands STEM education access and mentorship.
Katelyn leads workshops, organizes outreach events, and visits local elementary schools through WOW! That’s STEM. Katelyn and her team have reached upwards of 4,700 students [1] by leading over 200 workshops and distributing 5,000 STEM kits. Katelyn also started “Wolves for Wildlife,” which focuses on habitat restoration and conversation in her local community. She recently received a Roots & Shoots grant, which she used to launch a community scienc[2] e initiative at her local arboretum where she installed new signage, hosted educational zooms, and a BioBlitz.
Outside of Roots & Shoots, Katelyn furthers her passion for wildlife by researching jellyfish and lichen microbiomes. She also enjoys camping, backpacking, geocaching, listening to music, and spending time with her friends and family.
Katelyn reflects on her work saying, “These experiences remind me that hope grows when communities show up for each other and care for both people and the world around them.”
