Years on RSYC: 2023–2024
Jessie is an active student leader making a positive impact and embodying the values of Roots & Shoots. Jessie was introduced to Roots & Shoots through joining her on-campus club. Now an upperclassman, she serves as its president. While attending the RSYC summer summit, she gained inspiration for future projects and found a sense of belonging with other Council members.
Jessie’s current focus is leading her club’s annual “Recycling is BeaUTiful Art Gala”, where students submit art made from recycled materials.
Not only does the gala celebrate better recycling practices on campus, it’s also a source of inspiration and hope for Jessie, who envisions expanding its impact beyond the university.
Her involvement in R&S led to presenting at a women’s history month event, highlighting women in STEM. Beyond Roots & Shoots, Jessie is a pop culture nerd and volunteers at a local museum. She also served as a judge for the One Earth Film Festival, which showcased the creative ways youth address environmental challenges.
On her plans for the future, Jessie says: “I want to be like Jane when I grow up.”
