We the People: Learning From Refugees and Immigrants

  • Location
    Marshall, Michigan
  • Status

The Problem

Working from a point of mutual respect we want to work with our local chapter of Half the Sky and Gordon Goes Global to interview refugees and immigrants in our area and create documentary films and YouTube videos to educate others about the reasons why people become refugees/immigrants and what successes and challenges they experience. We will share these films with students at our local schools and to other area groups.

Our Plan

Working with experienced social workers and other trained professionals, our middle and high school members will record interviews with refugees and immigrants to our area. Because we are a small town, we do not have all of the resources of larger metropolitan areas, and this might make transitions more difficult. We have contacts with families who have moved to our area from Yemen, China, Japan, and Burma and hope to learn more about various cultures from this experience.
