We as a school, at Western Avenue Elementary are coming together to grow food, despite having an all asphalt campus. We are here to take our health and knowledge of growing food systems back into the hands of our community through our students.
We are creating a "Pop Up" Garden. All teachers will have access to grow kits with engaging, exploratory activities. They will create satellite gardens all over our campus through the use of grow bags. Once we reach harvest then our community non-profit partner, Cooking With Gabby, will come in and cook the harvest with each grade level as a harvest meal. A group of students will train to be "master" gardeners after school and will support teachers using their grow kits.
